Hot fix rhinestones need to be heated up (either with an iron or a bejeweler) to be applied while flatbacks need to be to glued.

You need to use glue for flatbacks and a Bejewler for the hotfix. Artbeads.com carries glue for both fabrics and non-porous surfaces as well as two different irons for hotfix. Bling away!

Where can I find design inspiration for Swarovski flatback designs?

Ideas are everywhere. If you can doodle, you can embellish! If you are looking for patterns try stencils or foam cut-outs at your local craft store. Cookie cutters make great stencils too. A customer of ours recommends using quilting books. Simply find the pattern you want, blow it up to the size you need, cut it out and embellish around it. Card making books are another great place to look for inspiration. Many have simple patterns to follow. The important thing with the Flatbacks is to have fun. Anything that sparkles will look great!

Are there any materials I should not use Swarovski Hotfix Rhinestones with?

Hotfix was originally made for the garment industry and is not intended for ceramic, glass, leather and water-resistant material such as umbrellas. You can still embellish these surfaces with regular, non-Hotfix rhinestones and an adhesive such as E6000 or Gem Tac glue.

You have to watch when you use Vinyl and Velvet, some of the cheaper velvets will mark and vinyl will melt. Lycra and cotton or polycotton work well and I have stoned on Silk and it works great too. Some of the cheaper metallic fabrics will also mark.

Yes use it on the back of the stone if you can this will get it closer to the glue that has to be re-heated. I like to iron the back of garments after they are finished to ensure that nothing falls off later

It's natural for them to fall out, but so what.. you've enjoyed them for some time, right??
Things fall apart -- even something that is bonded as strongly as your tooth cavity filling. It's a part of life.

I bling most of my clothes. I buy EXTRA because I know they'll fall out. I buy hundreds of many colors of the Hotfix Swarovsky, and I put them on jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and even on my phone !! I wash and dry the clothes like normal. And some that fall out actually look pretty normal, no one else notices them!!
Buy Extra.

A part of the fun is putting them on -- so just refill them later!!

How can I get the set crystals out of old vintage jewelery without damaging the stones?

Hi,
I just use the flat side of my wire cutters to get under the prongs to bend them back. The stone will usually just fall out because if they were glued, the glue has long since deteriorated. I have never had a problem getting this done and the stone is not marred.

Question
what is the best way to apply Swarovski flatbacks on a dance costume?

We suggest using the Swarovski Hotfix flatbacks for your dance costume because they are designed specifically for fabric. They have glue attached to the back of them, and you would use the Bejeweler to heat up the glue and then adhere the stone to your costume.

We have two types of Bejeweler tools that you can find below:

http://www.artbeads.com/bejeweler.html

http://www.artbeads.com/bejeweler-p.html

We also suggest testing a small piece of the fabric to make sure the stones will hold.

The 6200 Rivoli Pendants can be hung as charms by using either a bail or an open jump ring. They are top-drilled from front to back, and are faceted to a point on both sides of the pendant.
