answer 3
a top drilled bicone acts as more of a pendant/charm, with the hole at the top of the point. a normal bicone is a bead, with the hole running through the middle

answer 5
Regular bicones are drilled right through the center like a normal bead. "Top drilled" bicones are not drilled through the center, but are instead drilled through the top of one of the "points" so when you string them, they hang almost like a pendant.

this question can be answered in so many ways... if he necklace is to be worn short, the it should be measured to the cruks of the collar bone. every neck is different , you should get used to measuring... bracelets if the person likes it long to drape near the hand, you have to measure... if they like it just to fit measure the wrist and add a half an inch for comfort..

I make them from 6 1/2 to 8 inches..I have found that many people have different sized wrists. So I learned early on to add an extender and a large lobster clasp appropriate for the size of findings on the bracelet.

answer 4
For a necklace the best length is 16" with a 2" extender. Younger people like them shorter, older people like them longer as a general rule. There is always that neckline where the 18" just does not work, so the extender gives you the opportunity to shorten the necklace for the evening.

For a bracelet, 7 to 71/2" is standard. But some of us do have pretty big wrists, so unless you know the exact measurements I would consider 7" with a 1" extender.

answer 5
Although I do agree with 18 inches as the best length for a necklace, I would say that 7 to 7 1/2 inches is best for a bracelet unless it is made with large lampworked beads that stand up from the wrist. I think I have an average wrist size and I find an 8 inch bracelet is too big and slides down too low on my hand.

The best length for a bracelet is 8 inches if selling, and a necklace 18 inches if selling. Now if i make a bracelet for my self or my family i have to make it 6 or 7 inches, we have small wrists.

Both these colors are very similar in my opinion. When placed side by side, though, the greige is more of a warm tone, the black diamond is more of a cool tone. The Greige also appears a little lighter in color than the black diamond to me.

The SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS style 5301 faceted bicones are being replaced with the innovative XILION cut, which features an increased number of alternating large and small facets. Now known as the 5328 XILION cut bicone, the new design creates higher brilliance with 12 meticulously-cut facets. This patented cut is bursting with captivating brilliance and will provide you with gorgeous results! Due to its small size, the intricate 5328 XILION cut cannot be manufactured using Swarovski's current crystal cutting technology on the 2.5mm bicones. For this reason, Swarovski will continue to promote the very popular existing 5301 faceted bicone using the new 5328 article number.

Question
What is a your recommended process to add crystal beads to a lace stole I am knitting?
My yarn is delicate lace weight made of 70% cashmere and 30% silk. It looks a lot like a fuzzy thread. I want to add 4mm Swarovski crystal beads along both sides. I would like to add larger beads to the edging but the yarn seems too delicate to support them. How do you recommend I reinforce the yarn to hold the beads? What process do you recommend for adding beads to knitting?

I thread the beads on the yarn as I knit and then you have the beads knitted into the project as you go. Take a piece of yarn with you and a yarn sewing needle to sew the yarn thru the hole of the bead to see which size beads fit the yarn you are using for the project. Also you can see which weight bead (besides the size of the hole) best fits your project without being too heavy. Sorry for the delay in answering you but I hope this helps you.

When I add stones of any kind to fabric, I use a traslucent thread.. so the stiching doesn't show.. about reinforcing the yarn? I do not have a clue.

hi becky,
without seeing your pattern it's a bit hard to suggest anything definite for you. one way i've used in the past to add beads or crystals is to use a big eye needle, the same yarn, and weave from place to place following the thread path, adding your crystals as you go. by adding the extra bit of yarn it will stiffen up your edges. the only thing you can do is try it and see. if the 4mm crystals are still too heavy, you have the option of going to the smaller 3mm crystals. depending on how far apart the crystals will be, you may be able to make a couple of passes thru the edging to help make it a bit stiffer.

i'm sorry this is so late in getting to you, and that i can't be more helpful. good luck with your project!

I attach charms with jump rings..If you can use a closed ring, it is safer.but an open ring will also work..I like stretch bracelets with 2 knots a few beads apart and then a drop of glue. Never had a problem with breakage. And they are soo easy to wear.

answer 3
The best place to attach the charm is right by the clasp where there is typically already some sort of ring where you can attach the charm. If the charm does not already have a small ring on it, you can purchase one from here - I would go with about 4mm and make sure it's an "open" ring. Then take two pairs of various pliers, twist the ring open, attach the charm and hook it onto the bracelet and then use the pliers again to close the ring. Voila!

We would recommend using jewelry wire to string Swarovski crystal beads. Our design team uses ZambaPro 49 .019 Jewelry Wire exclusively in our free Learning Center design ideas. We have tested the different brands of jewelry wire that we carry and have found that ZambaPro is the most kink resistant and is exceptionally flexible. The .019 diameter wire has a breaking point of 24.9 lb, so it will certainly be strong enough to hold a strand of 4mm bicone beads.

You will need at least a 2 inch head pin in sterling silver or gold filled, Swarovski cube beads in 8mm, 6mm & 4mm. Depending on the size of your bow, you could do 10mm, 8mm & 6mm. Also you can make them with the 4mm or 6mm butterfly bead instead of a pewter bow to keep it all crystal. Place your largest cube on the headpin first, then the medium, then the small, then the bow you have chosen. Wire wrap the head pin closed and attach it to your earwire and your done! I recommend wire wrapping the head pin instead of doing a simple loop because you can wrap the head pin all the way down on top of the bow so that it puts a little pressure (not much) on the beads to keep them from spinning and also it is the safest way so you won't lose your beads if the earring gets pulled on. I suggest using at least a 2" - 24 guage head pin, you might even want to use a 2 1/2" so you can have enough wire to wrap all the way down to the beads, for earrings (using the small beads) and use 22 gauge 3" head pins with larger beads to make a matching pendant. If you make the matching pendant, before you close your wrap, place a closed 6mm jump ring on the head pin and then complete the wrap. The jump ring will act as your bail. I hope this helps you!
