Question
How do you make crimp beads secure?
My crimp beads sometimes pull loose, no matter how well I think I have flattened them with the crimping tool and then crushed them in the front of the tool.

I leave a long end threaded back through the beads and for extra strength I put a small drop of super glue at each end of crimp and then use a crimp cover for a finished look.

All...good answers, may I add this? Your crimp tool wears out! After 3 years of consistent use, the tool no longer flattens the crimp properly. Also for a finished look, use crimp covers. Fully agree with keeping wire 'tail' long and running it back through beads and/or tie it off if beads are heavy. I have made more than 8,000 necklaces in past 7 years.
Love it...I am addicted and the business is very successful.

I make sure that my wire is left long..inserted into my beads..then I sometimes use two crimp beads. I have none that come unsecure unless it is not crimped properly. Make sure you crimp first, then turn the crimp up on its top side, then flatten, but, not too hard. You can usually look at it, give it the pull test to tell if it is locked in. Good luck!

Use the recommended size crimp for the size wire you are using. Check package for size info. If you are using a crimp that is too small, you won't get a good fold over. Here's 3 things I do to make sure my crimps stay put.

1) Very important - make sure the wires lay flat next to each other and are not crossed inside the crimp.
2) Make sure the "dimple" presses between the wires to make it start to bend. This is what helps it fold over in the next step.
3) Make sure that the crimp gets "folded over in half", not just rounded up on the sides. When the crimp is too small, it just rounds and opens up. If it rounds up instead of folding over, it will come loose.

It's important to use the right tool and the right crimps. We recommend the sterling silver and the gold-filled crimp tubes for the best results. You can use a flat-nose pliers to squeeze your crimp tubes, but a specialized bead crimping tool is the best to use. Remember, it is not necessary to squeeze too hard on the crimp tube when attaching it to the wire. The crimp tube is secured when there is no space between the wire and the inside of the tube. Squeezing too hard weakens the crimp. You can find more detailed information on crimping and the use of tools on the back of the package of our tools.

We also have a picture tutorial and a video tutorial on finishing crimp tubes. You can find these in our Learning Center via the following links:

Making a bracelet for an infant, or even a small child is dangerous! When I sell my jewelry at a show I always prominently post a sign that says "Contains small parts...not intended for small children."

I recomment HIGHLY that you do NOT give babies and toddlers beaded jewelry.

It's a good way for a babies and toddliers to choke on 'em if for whatever reasons they break.

For an infant, the bracelet size is generally 4 1/2 inches. So, it really will depend on what kinds of beads you are planning to put on there. Once you decide that, then you can figure out how many beads will be needed.

I start by measuring the wrist the bracelet is for. Then measure the beads & allow extra so not too tight. Baby arms can vary depending on size of baby, size of baby's wrist, beads & pattern.

How do the new jump ring locks work? I am having trouble getting thedm to come together. Should a space be visible?

Use two chain nose pliers to open the ring as you would a traditional jump ring. Place your chain, charm or other finding onto the jump ring. While continuing to hold the left side steady, twist the right side back toward you a quarter-turn past the closed position. Begin to bring your jump ring into the closed position. As you twist back, very gently push the right side in just enough to make sure that the edges of the two ends make contact with each other. As you reach the closed position, you will hear a click. Gently twist the right side back and forth to align the two ends. There should not be a large gap between the two ends. Once the jump ring is closed, it is not meant to be opened and reused, as this could weaken the metal.

How do I string the square ring?

There are several ways that you can use the Swarovski 4439 Square Ring. You can use beaded links, chain or wire to either link several Square Rings together or to incorporate one Ring into your design. For a simpler approach, you can slide a chain or other stringing material through the center, making the Square Ring a simple yet unique focal piece. If you would prefer the Ring to face completely forward, you can create a beaded bail or a chain bail to hang the Ring from your jewelry piece.

Delicas are Japanese seed beads. Miyuki Delica are known for their uniformity. Also, Delicas are more of a cylinder shape, whereas Tohos, for example, are more rounded.
