I have found that if I tie a surgeon's knot and gently stretch all four parts as I collapse the knot, the resulting knot is stable. Remember, that the two end strands of the final knot will not lie parallel to the two body strands when the knot is completely secure. It will look more like this X, and not completely perpendicular.

There is a specific knot for elastic cord. instead of rolling the elastic cord once in the loop, your should roll it twice and then repeat it... it will not move a bit....

I use a lighter like you light the grill with, heat up a pair of flat nosed pliers and then close the pliers over the knot. This melds the knot with the surrounding thread and works wonders.

I use this trick - shared with me by a friend - when I am tying off a stretch elastic ring. Once you have made the knot - slip an open safetypin into the center of the knot and then pull it as tight as you can. The pin seems to give the cord something to tighten around - and then it can be easily removed. So far we've never had a knot come undone. Hope this helps!

Presentation...presentation...presentation..I believe that the way your handcrafted jewelry is displayed can help buyers see more of the items' beauty. Be creative with different colored velvet fabric to bring out elegance or maybe leafs and branches to bring out a mood. Add your personal connection to the piece you created.

Try some of these ideas and see what helps. 1) Name your ‘company’ and have nice, but inexpensive, business cards printed. (Look at other cards to decide what you need to put on them and by all means be careful about what info you give out. ASK your parents about this—you must ALWAYS be very careful). 2) Now, as you are in business, you need to make sure your product looks, and is, finished and professional—no matter what your age. You must be sure there are no thread ends showing and the colors or styles of the pieces could be worn with many outfits—from denim to little black evening dresses. 3) Look at all kinds of magazines and see what older girls are wearing. 4) Try learning the techniques that go with the beads you are using. 5) I know that having a professional case of some kind to carry around your product will also help. 6) It will be good if you can display your jewelry—you can do this by using solid color fabric remnants over bottles and cans and then draping your jewelry where it is being displayed. 7) Print your signs on a computer so they match your cards. Finally, price your items for your market. I hope even one of these ideas will help. You want people to know you are a serious entrepreneur—I can’t spell it yet, but I’ve done it three times! Best wishes on your dreams and ambitions. Carol

i am 12 and i make and sell jewelry. mix and match beads to make it eye catching. when you think of the price, take the time that you made it, and take the price of your beads , crimp beads, and things like. also when your trying to sell it talk to the people and be really friendly. and if they are really looking at one of your necklaces tell them a little about the necklace, but don't push it!!

What I've found helpful is to use unique combinations that are eye catching and unusual. For instance, mixing wood beads and pearls or crystals and glass. There are all kinds of materials, textures, and color combos to work with - and the only limit is your imagination!

i'm twelve and i bead too, some of it depends on the quality of the beads, such as using freshwater pearls, and those little crystal things( sorry i dont know what there called) if the beads were expensive, take the amount of all the beads together, and how much time you worked on it, and come up with a reasonable price. i wouldnt charge more than five dollars, unless its really something. I hope this help at the tiniest bit.

What about trying to make a memory wire bracelet. You can make them any size you want and as tight as you want. It all depends on the size beads you use. You could also try a beaded crocheted bracelet, again you can make these and wide as you like and they are very comfortable. I have made both of these before and are both rather easy.

I agree with the person who suggested a bead woven bracelet. Herringbone might be the better technique because it has a little more movement to it. I am a dialysis patient and have had several fistulas, including one on my forearm that had a rather noticeable scar. They can make you a bit self conscious! Herringbone stitch is also nice because it shouldn't rub too much along where the needle sites are.

Sounds like you need someone to make something custom for you. Try your local area craft fairs or bead shops to see if someone near you could whip something up. You could try finding someone online by going to the site of someone who sells jewellry online and emailing them directly. In the meantime, could you find someone to knit or crochet a short cuff for you? Or you could use a silky scarf as a cover up.

You might consider a beadwoven bracelet using a stitch like herringbone, square or right angle weave. You can make them as big as you want. Peyote stitch, too, but it would take a lot of time and beads.

You can use an open jump ring to add a charm or pendant to a finished necklace. The size of jump ring that you will use will depend on the size of the beads on the necklace. You can feel free to contact our Customer Service department by phone or email with the measurement of these beads and the dimensions/product code of the charm or pendant, and we would be happy to recommend to you an appropriate size of jump ring to use.

Question
How To Make A Stone Guitar Pick Necklace
Hi,

I found you online while researching a little project I am going to be starting. What I want to accomplish does not seem that difficult but I have no idea how to do this so I thought I would ask an expert!

I am a guitarist and I want to make a necklace to decoratively display a guitar pick made of stone. My dilemma is accomplishing this while at the same time I want to be able to remove the pick from the necklace easily and quickly so I can use it to play guitar. Preferably playing with nothing attached to the pick when it is off the necklace because this would definitely interfere with holding the pick while playing guitar. I also want a reliable attachment since it will be holding a $35 agate pick. Jewelry making or design is not my area of expertise so I don't even know if lobster clasps or grab or trigger clasps like I think this must be are reliable or if there are other better ways to do this.
Do you have any advice about the sizing of a clasp like shown in the photo I attached? The photo I found online shows me proof that it can be done with a clasp of some sort and size but I am not sure how easy it is to get that pick on/off or how reliable that clasp is.
The stone pick I am looking at for this project is smaller than in the picture and is about 2-3mm thick with a 1.5mm holed drilled approximately 2mm from the edge of the stone (hope this helps) Maybe a lobster clasp or trigger clasp is not the best idea for what I want to do here? Do you have any expert advice on how to accomplish what I want to do? It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Chris

well, i would say that if you used the stone pick too much, it will probably break. For how to make it, you should find the kind of stone that is the size and kind that you want. You would put the rock in a rock tumbler which will take maybe a day and then when you're finding the stone that you want, make sure it is really thin. You then can drill a hole in the top of it so that you can take it on and off.

Has anyone suggested using a magnetic clasp [light weight magnet to remove easily]? The way I have it pictured in my head is ... keep the stone the way you have it pictured, but attach to the leather cord one end of the magnetic clasp and the other end to the guitar pick. Easy on, and not-too-easy off [you don't want to have it come off too easily]!

Hope this helps ... let me know if it does!

Question

There are four key points to consider when purchasing stringing wire.

First is the thickness of the wire. We suggest purchasing the thickest available that will still string through the beads.

Second is to consider the amount of strands of wire woven into one thickness. The more strands the more flexible and stronger the wire. We suggest using 49 with all heavy jewelry designs, as you will not have the risk of the wire breaking.

Third is the finish of the wire. Some wires will offer a color choice and some may only have a dark grey finish. If you are doing a design that shows the wire or has light colored beads, you may want to use a wire that has more of a silver tone than grey.

Fourth is the brand. Each beader will tell you one wire is better than the other. However most of the difference is based on the feel of the wire. Our designers use ZambaPro. Not only does this wire come in 49 strands, offers various wire thickness but it also feels soft and doesn't kink.

We hope this is helpful!

use delicas on .024 wire to make the loop. Cut 16 inches wire and attach button to one end, crimp and cover with crimp cover. Bead bracelet from there for about six inches or whatever will work with your button and wrist. put an uncrimped crimp on and finish off with the size 15 or 17 delicas or other small seed beads, around 25 - 30, depending how big the loop must be. Bring the end around, crimp and cover. this bracelet takes a few tries to get it right but is a big hit in my classes.
