Question
Where do I find thin pin heads to thread pearls through?
The normal pins are too thick to allow pearls to be threaded on to make earrings. What can I use?

buy thin wire & cut it to the length you need. 24 gauge will work with almost all pearls. turn the end into a small loop & you have your own headpin!

You buy a smaller gauge head pin. I have made a number of them w this smaller gauge but it breaks very easily when trying to wrap. Usually takes me 2 or 3 tries!

You could always just purchase some 24 or 26 gauge wire (bronze artisic wire) on a spool and make a little coil on the bottom of the pearl then put it through the pearl and then make your wire wrapped loop. (this will go nicely with the niobium ear wires)

Larger gauged pins. Large # = thinner pin.

They make a ruler that has different gauge sizes on it. You can place your headpin on the ruler and check for sizes that way.

there isnt one that you can see on the actual headpin. I recommend just leaving them in the bag you bought them in so you can always see the size and thickness.

There usually is no size stamped anywhere on the headpin. It's usually on the order form only.

i've found that it's all about shape and color for men: heishi shaped wood or pooka shell beads are great, as are rice beads, tubes, and oval. smooth not faceted beads in masculine colors like black, brown, or red jasper are also good choices. oval trigger clasps are a great choice for men - the bigger the easier!

I think that when you are designing a piece for a man, go for chunky beads in nuetral colors, use heavy guage wire or chain, don't use crystals. Try to use beads that make a big statement, but at the same time don't over do it. Goodluck.

Try using earthy nature inspired materials such as hemp cord, leather, and stones. Adding silver really completes the flare....

I've seen 2 1/2" in headpins and eyepins.

BUT, you can also get heavier wire (comparable to what you're using now for an eyepin, or a smidge thicker for strength), and make whatever length you need. Just make a loop at one end with round nose pliers, then cut the wire to whatever length you need.

Yes, you can get three inch head pins but when I make longer earrings I prefer to use a piece of chain(quite often you have shorter pieces that have been cut off) Using the chain gives so much more movement to the creation instead of being stiff & hanging down.I usually wrap but some can be hung on the chain using jump rings.

Murano glass is beautiful... I have seen glass blowing with Murano glass in Venice. Of course, the little shot glasses I was intrigued with were very expensive. They were trimmed with gold!

Murano has been a famous Italian glassmaking center for centuries. Contemporary Murano glassmakers are still employing the same techniques used by their predecessors for generations past, resulting in gorgeous handmade works of art

A small Smart Bead in the appropriate metal also works well and is dressier than an earring clutch.

U-top ear threads usually stay in place pretty well, but on threads without a u-top I use a tiny rubber stopper and slide it to the back of my ear.

I have the same problem, so I began using rubber "stoppers" as an alternative. They're shaped like tubes or flowers. The holes are very tight, of course, and to loosen the holes, I push as many as I can onto the shaft of a large safety pin. The pin stretches them just enough and not too much. I leave them on the pin, so I have a ready supply of stretched ear nuts. BTW, it helps to push them onto the earwire with a screwing motion.

Sure. Using a bead that is of reasonable size and weight and you can also use an ear clutch (rubber) to keep the thread secure to the ear.
