Yes, It "oxidizes". Unlike Iron which rusts, Copper turns dark and eventually develops a patina that is green. Lady Liberty is a prime example of what happens to Copper over time- She's plated in it!

To the best of my knowledge and experience, the products you purchase from Artbeads has a oxidization preventing coating. I have used copper components for years without ever seeing them deteriate.
No, it is copper and also has a coating so it will not oxidize and discolor.

Question
What is the best method for cleaning my silver when tarnished.
Do the silver, gold and copper plated charms and chains tarnish easily? I was dissapointed to see that some of the solid sterling silver pieces (rather expensive pieces) tarnished quickly and did not clean up well. My daughter buys costume jewelry and it does not tarnish as quickly. Should I use more plated pieces?

I use tooth paste and a very soft brush brush it into the creases and then rinse dry really good and buff with a microsoft cloth and my silver stays really nice.

Costume peices may be stainless steel which will not tarnish but is very cheap and can cause allergies. silver gold and copper will tarnish whether it is plated or not. Use a treated polishing cloth if you have pieces that have antiquing in the grooves and a cleaner (Artbeads has both) for plain ones.

Copper will oxidize naturally over time due to its chemical nature. Several of our copper components (BC-PEND055, for instance) have been coated in lacquer by the manufacturer to ensure that the copper component will last through the years without changing colors, oxidizing or tarnishing. If a copper component has been lacquered, this information will be noted in the product description on the item page.

Yes, copper is considered to be a base metal. Copper plating is a method used by some manufacturers as a less expensive alternative to using pure copper. We carry both copper plated items and pure copper items because we strive to offer our customers the largest variety of cost and material choices available.

Copper is a base element. You can find it on the periodic table listed as Cu. Therefore, the answer is "No". Arsenic is also a base element. It is on the Periodic Table as Ar. They are both metals. Arsenic is known as a heavy metal and is poisonous to humans. It accumulates in the body over time and can kill you. Copper is not considered poisonous: however, there is a condition called Wilson's disease, in which too much copper in the body shows up as bright flecks in the iris of the eyes.
