Look up how to make a beaded bezel. I have used this twice on coins, as well as several times on rivoli crystals.

measure your coins and buy coin bezels to fit. The bezel will have a loop at the top where you can put a jump ring.

Ditto the Marsblack answer. I just did this. I wanted to make Ireland Key chains with Charms and Irish coins. A Dremel will work.

If you don't think it will ruin the look of the coin, drill a hole for a jump ring. You will need a power tool for this-Dremel is easy to use.

Wire wrapping, or a glue on bail tap perhaps?

answer 6
Take a shop class at a local college, perhaps a welding class. Buy a sauttering iron....and research sauttering as an art....a sauttering iron is not really used for making jewelry that I know of, but I believe it would definitely work somehow....also, research blacksmith info.

Epoxy is a great glue for fixing an attachment to the chip so you can hang it. You don't need much and it will last.

I had the same question so I decided to use the jump rings that double around itself (sorry, cannot remember what they are called, but just search jump rings). Also there is a tool available to open them. Otherwise I would NEVER get them opened. By design they cannot accidently open when snagged, etc.

jump rings that are over 6mm they can be opened and closed with just your fingers, but if you don't open them right they'll be ruined. That's a lesson i think all new beaders learn

You may not be a beader now but once you've made exactly what you want, for less than you could have purchased it in a store, you'll be hooked too!

Check the finished chain selections. Most of them have a small enough ring to slip a charm right onto it. All the charms come with a "jump ring" that is (normally) opened with tools to add to whatever. Depending on the size ring, you might be able to manage this without tools. If not, be sure to check the tutorial on this site for opening jump rings. There's a wrong way and -let me tell you- you can't bend them back. The hardest part for you will be choosing which charm!

Have fun future beader!

Question
bead that holds a charm
I recently bought a bracelet that had a bead with a ring on the side (almost like the handle on a coffee cup) that held a charm. What are they called and where can I find them?

I believe you are describing what is known as a "link" or linking bead. There are two different types of liks- vertical (with loops on top and bottom) and horizontal (loops on the sides). A link provides a physical attatching point for beads, drops, charms, transitions, and as part of design elements. Many links attached can substitute a chain in a necklace or bracelette. An example of a simple, but ornate link is a chandalier earring. It "links" the earwire and the design elements.

You may be describing a tube link bead:

Or perhaps one of these spacer beads:

All you have to do is find a chain that has fairly large links, find the assortment of charms and/or beads that you want on your bracelet. Then hang them on the chain using head pins/jump rings.

Artbeads carries 8mm and 17mm sterling letter charms. Not sure if that helps, as I don't know which ones you ordered. 17mm are the biggest ones I've seen on the site.
