Sew beads first on to a thin stiff material, when finished, sew on to leather. You can draw a design on the material, then sew beads on.

The easiest way is to use memory wire. Use the size for rings, add beads and dangles...whatever you want, make a tiny loop at either end of the wire (make sure you use enough wire that it overlaps about half way around the circle both ways). Voila, it will just slip right around the stem of your wine glass!

Anonymous is correct, but you need to make sure that you don't squeeze the pliers too hard or you will end up with a curl that can't be undone. Kind of like that curling ribbon that you put on Christmas presents.

a knot is a knot, however the only way to take a knot apart is to use two needles or straight pins, one in each hand, put the points into the knot and gently start pulling the tiny threads apart. Yes, It takes time, but if you want to save the work already done, you will gently pull apart the threads.
This is also used in pulling apart a knot in a chain necklace.

Question
How do you keep jump rings closed?

If you need a jump ring to stay permanently closed they make jump rings that are sodered closed. Of course that would mean it would need to be in a place where it never had to be opened to become part of your project. Otherwise, if they keep opening it may be the way or open them to use them or the material they are made of. The best material with the greatest malleability is sterling silver. When you open the jumprings, don't pull the ends away from each other in the same plane as the ring. Grasp the ring between your thumbs and pull one side'up' and the other side 'down'; close the rings by reversing the process and this should help your problem. Another variable is the gauge of the wire that the jump ring is composed of; you may need to use a heavier wire (lower number) to increase the stiffness of the ring. If you make your own jumprings, be sure not to make them out of 'dead soft' sterling silver; use half-soft. I hope this helps.

I have never made a beaded prayer rope, but the best thread for any beading project so far as wear goes is Beadalon WildFire. It's thermally bonded, can't be pierced with a needle and is made specifically for bead weaving.
