I like the 49 strand .018 size wire. Strong but flexible. I also use cable thimbles to cut down on wear & tear from the clasp & 5mm Swarovski bicones between the letters, they fit perfect with the 5mm alpha blocks. Hope this was helpful.

I use a 7strand tigertail with a magnetic clasp - strong enough not to break but the clasp ooens easily if it catches on anything. I use them on necklaces and don't have to worry about them.

Depending on the size of the alpha bead you can use 4mm round glass pearls between letters or my favorite is to use 5mm crystal bicone beads between letters. The picture shows 4.5mm alpha beads.

There are actually a couple different things you can use. One idea to try is the Sterling silver Saucer Beads. These are shaped in a way the they will fit partially inside of the alphabet bead which will hold it up and space them out a little. You can also try the Swarovski 5305 - Roundels. These will do the same this as the Sterling Saucers but will add color.

For an example of a bracelet made with alphabet beads and the Sterling saucer beads, please follow this link:

I assume a 5mm bead but I prefer a 5 or 6mm bicone because part of the bicone actually inserts into the bead & stabilizes it.

I wouldn't use anything larger than the alphabet bead itself. Trial and error (which looks best) works for me. Maybe it's not a saucer bead that you really should use??? Try a few different options.

good luck!

what kind of stringing material can be used for stringing freshwater pearls and what is the best clasp to use?

If you want a "classic" look, use #5 silk and knot between each pearl. The standard clasp for this was a "fish hook," an oval ornate clasp with a hook (for safety) which then snaps in.

I string them on flexrite and on leather. If using the leather you need to drill the pearls. I use lobster clasps as well as toggles depending on the look I want.

what is vermeil?

Vermeil, sometimes called gilt is a combination of gold, sterling & other precious metals. The gold must be at least 10 carat (10k). It is used to coat another metal, usually sterling. You should avoid polishing the item or using a any type of cleaner on the piece. A non tarnish storage bag or non tarnish squares or strips added to a plastic bag & gentle handling should keep your piece from wear for a long time. You can purchase strips from Artbeads, search CSTRIP-1 (1x1) or CSTRIP-2 (2x2) anti tarnish strip.

You could try adding 4 or 5mm Swarovski bicones to either side of the 5.5 alpha bead. I prefer the 5mm size. You can still see the crystal without it looking bulky. No real way to stack them vertically that i know. They have to be side by side. Hope this was helpful.

Since the Alphabet Block Beads have a horizontal hole, you would need to make a wire wrap similar to one used on a top-drilled bead to get them to hang with the letter facing forward. For instructions on how to make a top-drilled wire wrap, click the following link:

We also have letter and number charms available in several finishes and sizes that come with a soldered bail on top and can easily be used for earrings. You can find these charms on our website via the following link:

That 8mm bead is much bigger than the cube letter beads I am used to working with. I bet you could use 4mm crystals and 4mm seamless silver ball beads and make a great 2 strand bracelet.

What is the best size toggle to use on a braclet that has 5.6 alpha beads and no other beads bigger than 6mm?

I always use a toggle that won't make the bracelet larger than 7 1/2 " I just try not to crimp anything until I get the bracelet to about 6 or 6 1/2" (I scotch tape each end) then measure my toggle. I usually add 2 or 3 11/0 seed beads for the bar end or it can be difficult to hook if it's a single strand bracelet. Most of my toggle clasps vary in size but on average I use anywhere from a 10-14mm.

If you have a bead gauge you can measure your bead, if not a local jeweler would be able to measure them for you at no cost. Just make sure he or she writes the measurement down for you.
